Project Overview:
The Catfish Regulator is an environmental structure installed in the inlet channel between Catfish Billabong and the Murray River. Its purpose is to regulate water flow, mimicking natural flooding cycles to support native flora and fauna. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance ecological health in the region.
RPC’s Contribution:
Regional Project Consulting provided end-to-end support, from design through to construction, ensuring the project met all environmental and engineering design requirements. Our team oversaw the delivery of project including the steel sheet pile dam wall and associated concrete regulating structure.
Challenges Overcome:
- Designing structures capable of withstanding variable water levels and potential flood events.
- Ensuring minimal disruption to existing ecosystems during construction.
- Adhering to tight project timelines and budgets.
Outcome:
Despite experiencing two flood events during construction, the project was successfully delivered on time and within budget. The Catfish Regulator is now operational, effectively delivering environmental water to the surrounding floodplain and supporting biodiversity.
